COMEDY WRITer & actor

Eleanor has been working in comedy since graduating in 2008. After a sell out show at The Comedy Store in Manchester, she created the award-winning sketch troupe Lady Garden. They went to Edinburgh Festival that year (Gilded Balloon), landed a BBC development deal and toured the country, as well as returning to Edinburgh Festival (The Pleasance) for four more years. Eleanor wrote and performed in Lady Garden as well as producing. During this time she was also performing and developing her own character stand-up Beverley Hill. She took her solo show I Am Bev to Edinburgh Festival (The Pleasance) in 2013. She’s also appeared in Absolutely Fabulous (BBC), Drifters (CHANNEL4/NETFLIX) and Live At The Electric (BBC).

Eleanor writes and directs for some of the country’s best known comedians on their live and TV work, tailoring material for specific shows and audiences. She has also edited several comedy memoirs ahead of publication.

In 2018 she was awarded The Royal Society of Authors grant for Non-Fiction. Her debut book, Private Parts , a comedy memoir, was published by Hachette/Hodder & Stoughton 2019.

i AM BEV

After years of doing sketch comedy in Lady Garden & circuit sets as a character stand-up, Eleanor did a full length show of her much loved character Bev. In 2013 she wrote and performed the critically acclaimed solo show Eleanor Thom: I am Bev at The Pleasance, Edinburgh. The show was chosen as one of the One of the top 5 character comedy shows to see at the Festival that year by The List and played to rave reviews and sold out crowds.

In 2014 Bev produced a self-commissioned reality series capturing her journey to fame for online because “That’s where it’s at these days”. You can see the taster episodes on @theofficialbevtube here.

LADY GARDEN

Eleanor founded the award-winning sketch group Lady Garden in 2008, after working with Beattie Edmondson, Hannah Dodd, Rose Johnson, Jessica Knappett and Camille Ucan during her sell-out comedy night Just For a Laugh at The Comedy Store, Manchester. 

Their debut show in 2008 at The Edinburgh Festival (The Gilded Balloon) received rave reviews, packed out audiences and landed a them a development deal with the BBC.

In 2009 they were Hackney Empire New Act and Laughing Horse Finalists, and won an Outstanding Contribution Argus Angel Award for their show at The Brighton Fringe Festival. 

From 2008- 2012 Lady Garden toured extensively; performing in theatres, clubs, pubs and festivals including Glastonbury and Latitude.  They went on to do three more Edinburgh shows at The Pleasance (2009-2012) working with Mick Perrin for Just for Laughs Live and award-winning director Phillip Breen on the 2010-2011 Edinburgh shows. 

In 2012 they were one of the resident acts on series 1 of Live At The Electric (BBC3) and Sketchorama (BBC Radio 4). They also appeared in the Comic Relief spoof Uptown Downstairs Abbey written by Jennifer Saunders. 

Lady Garden & Friends their sell out, critically acclaimed residency at The Wilmington Arms, London ran from 2009-2012 , hosting the best acts from the live circuit and TV. Due to its success they transferred to the West End for multiple one night specials at The Leicester Square Theatre & The King’s’ Place.
